Telangana raises age limit for govt jobs to 44 years

The Telangana state government has issued orders raising the upper age limit for direct recruitment in government jobs by 10 years, effective for one year. Chief Secretary K Ramakrishna Rao issued Government Order No. 86 on Monday, increasing the maximum age from 34 years to 44 years. However, the revised age limit will not apply to uniformed services such as the police.

Details of the Government Order

Copies of the GO were marked to the Telangana Public Service Commission and the police recruitment board. The last time the government increased the age limit was in February 2024 through GO No. 30, which raised the maximum age to 46 years. That order lapsed in February 2026, causing the upper age limit to revert to 34 years. The new GO states that several representations from unemployed youth urged the government to increase the upper age limit for direct recruitment.

Exclusions and Implementation

The enhanced age limit specifically excludes uniformed services. The order is valid for one year, after which it may be reviewed. On Tuesday, the government also directed all state departments to collect and upload comprehensive health data of government employees, pensioners, and their dependents by May 31. This is part of efforts to roll out a new Employees Health Scheme through an Employee Health Care Trust (EHCT).
