The Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC) in Trichy has deployed 587 special buses to accommodate passengers returning to Chennai and other cities after the extended weekend following the Assembly election.
Bus Operations on Sunday
On Sunday alone, 259 special buses were operated from Trichy to Chennai, in addition to 151 regular services. K Dhasarathan, Managing Director of TNSTC Kumbakonam, stated, 'The demand is lower than expected, and footfall is moderate. However, senior officials have been deployed to monitor the situation and arrange additional buses if needed.'
Official Inspection
Transport department Principal Secretary Shunchonngam Jatak Chiru, along with the TNSTC MD, inspected passenger movement and bus availability at the Panjapur Kalaignar Karunanidhi Bus Terminus (KKBT) early on Sunday.
Destinations and Schedule
Apart from the existing 421 regular services, special buses are being operated from Trichy to key destinations including Chennai, Coimbatore, Tiruppur, Villupuram, and Salem. Officials said nearly 70% of the 587 special buses will be operated on Monday, with services adjusted based on demand.
