In a significant move to bridge the gap between public needs and government action, the district of Trichy has launched a comprehensive public outreach initiative. Ministers K N Nehru and Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi officially inaugurated the 'Unga Kanava Sollunga' (Tell Your Dreams) scheme on Friday, setting in motion a large-scale survey to understand citizen aspirations.
Massive Outreach: The Scale of the Survey
The ambitious project aims to directly engage with a staggering 7.1 lakh families across the Trichy district. The breakdown includes approximately 5.1 lakh families in rural areas and another 2 lakh families in urban zones. To execute this mammoth task, the administration has appointed a small army of 1,433 field workers, who will be active on the ground from January 10 to January 30.
Ensuring the smooth operation and accuracy of the survey, 576 supervisors have been deployed for oversight. Notably, the field volunteers have been recruited from local women self-help groups, empowering community participation. Each volunteer has been equipped with internet-enabled mobile phones to facilitate efficient data collection and coordination.
How the 'Tell Your Dreams' Scheme Will Work
The operational model of the scheme is designed for convenience and clarity. A field volunteer will first visit a household and provide a dedicated application form. This document is crucial as it contains a detailed list of various schemes and projects launched by the state government over recent years, serving as a reference point for families.
Families are given time to review their options and articulate their needs. The volunteer will make a follow-up visit two days later to collect the filled-out forms. This two-step process ensures that respondents have adequate time to consider their feedback carefully.
Digitisation and Long-Term Policy Impact
The collected physical applications will not languish in files. Officials have outlined a robust digitisation process where all survey data will be entered into a digital system. As an acknowledgment of their participation, each surveyed family will receive a card.
The ultimate goal of 'Unga Kanava Sollunga' extends far beyond mere data collection. According to officials, the compiled information will act as a critical yardstick to analyse the reach and effectiveness of various state government schemes implemented over the past five years. More importantly, the genuine aspirations and expectations recorded will provide invaluable insights for policymakers to draft new, people-centric schemes and programs in the future, making governance more responsive.
