TTD Conducts Drone Awareness Session for Vigilance Department in Tirupati

A comprehensive drone awareness session was successfully organized for the vigilance department staff of the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams at the Sri Venkateswara Central Library and Research Centre in Tirupati on Thursday. This initiative aimed to significantly enhance the understanding and adoption of advanced drone technology to improve security, surveillance, and safety operations across the sacred sites of Tirumala and Tirupati.

Training Program Details and Participation

Approximately 57 officers from the TTD's vigilance department actively participated in the training program, gaining valuable insights into various critical aspects of drone technology. The session covered a wide range of topics, including:

  • The history and evolution of drones, tracing their development from early models to modern applications.
  • An overview of the Drone Rules 2021, highlighting regulatory frameworks and compliance requirements.
  • The pivotal role of drones in security and safety operations, emphasizing their utility in monitoring and response scenarios.
  • Integration of drones with artificial intelligence to enable smarter, automated surveillance systems.
  • Drone forensic investigation techniques for analyzing incidents and gathering evidence.
  • Counter-drone technology to mitigate threats from unauthorized drone activities.

Hands-On Training and Certification

Following the theoretical session, six vigilance department officers were carefully selected to undergo hands-on drone training and pursue remote pilot certification. Upon successful completion, these officers will be officially certified to operate drones for official surveillance and monitoring duties in Tirumala and Tirupati. This selection process ensures that the TTD builds a skilled team capable of leveraging drone technology effectively.

Expansion of Drone Pilot Strength

With two TTD vigilance officers already obtaining drone pilot licenses earlier in 2024, the total number of certified drone pilots at TTD is set to increase to eight after the current group of six officers completes their training and certification. K V Murali Krishna, the TTD chief vigilance and security officer, confirmed this expansion, noting that it will bolster the organization's technological capabilities in public safety operations.

Technological Support and Donations

The training session was conducted by Ariista Academy and facilitated by HCL Technologies as part of their ongoing commitment to strengthening technological capabilities in public safety domains. In a significant contribution, HCL Technologies is donating two advanced drones equipped with day and night vision camera capabilities, along with a thermal camera. These enhancements will improve night surveillance and monitoring for various security and safety operations, including:

  1. Border and perimeter security to protect sensitive areas.
  2. Disaster management for rapid response and assessment during emergencies.
  3. Wildlife monitoring to preserve ecological balance in the region.
  4. Traffic and crowd management to ensure smooth movement and safety during large gatherings.

Ultimately, these efforts are focused on ensuring the safety and security of devotees and infrastructure at Tirumala and Tirupati, leveraging cutting-edge technology to address modern challenges.
