Uttar Pradesh Government Unveils Dual Initiatives for Enhanced Schoolchild Safety
The Uttar Pradesh state government has rolled out two significant initiatives aimed at bolstering the safety of schoolchildren across the state. These measures include a comprehensive fortnight-long campaign to inspect the fitness of school vehicles and the introduction of a pioneering digital portal for vehicle management.
Statewide Fortnight Campaign for School Vehicle Inspection
Starting from Wednesday, a rigorous statewide campaign will be conducted over a fortnight to scrutinize the condition of school vehicles. This initiative will focus on checking multiple critical aspects to ensure compliance with safety standards.
- Fitness and Registration: Vehicles will be assessed for their overall fitness and proper registration status.
- Permits and Insurance: Inspectors will verify the presence of valid permits and insurance coverage.
- PUC and Physical Condition: Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificates and the physical state of the vehicles will be examined.
Strict actions will be enforced under the Motor Vehicles Act (MVA) 1988 against any vehicles found operating without permits or violating permit conditions, underscoring the government's commitment to legal adherence.
Launch of UP Integrated School Vehicle Management Portal (UP-ISVMP)
In a first for the state, the Uttar Pradesh government has launched the UP Integrated School Vehicle Management Portal (UP-ISVMP). This integrated digital platform is designed to enhance the safety, monitoring, and legal compliance of school vehicles.
Schools across Uttar Pradesh have been instructed to upload detailed information about their vehicles used for transporting children onto this portal. The portal will go live on Wednesday, coinciding with the start of the inspection campaign.
Daily reports from the campaign will be updated on the UP-ISVMP portal, which features a QR code for easy access. Developed by the transport department, this portal aims to provide a transparent and efficient system for tracking vehicle data and ensuring ongoing compliance.
Ongoing Enforcement and Responsibilities
Transport Commissioner Kinjal Singh has issued directives emphasizing that strict actions will continue even after the campaign concludes. School vehicles and their owners found operating without fitness certificates or with faulty certificates will face penalties as per the established rules.
School management committees are tasked with providing accurate details of their vehicles on the portal, playing a crucial role in maintaining the integrity of this safety initiative. This dual approach of campaign inspections and digital monitoring represents a proactive step by the Uttar Pradesh government to safeguard schoolchildren and promote responsible vehicle management.
