Uttar Pradesh's One Stop Centres: A Comprehensive Support System for Women

One Stop Centres established by the Uttar Pradesh government are increasingly becoming a crucial and indispensable support system for women confronting violence, harassment, and domestic distress. These centres offer integrated medical, legal, and counselling services under a single roof, as confirmed by an official spokesperson on Sunday.

Statewide Network of Support

According to official information, a total of 96 One Stop Centres are currently operational and actively serving communities across all 75 districts of Uttar Pradesh. These facilities are meticulously designed to provide immediate and comprehensive assistance to women in crisis situations. The services encompass psychological counselling, legal guidance, medical help, and police support, all accessible at one convenient location. Additionally, temporary shelter for up to five days is available for women who require a safe haven during emergencies, ensuring their security and well-being.

Streamlining Assistance and Resolving Conflicts

Officials emphasized that the primary objective of this initiative is to eliminate the need for women to navigate multiple offices in search of help, thereby reducing stress and delays. Trained counsellors at these centres listen to complaints with sensitivity and empathy, working diligently towards practical and sustainable solutions. This often includes family counselling sessions where necessary, aimed at addressing underlying issues and fostering reconciliation.

In a notable case from Auraiya, a 24-year-old woman approached a One Stop Centre several months ago in severe distress due to escalating domestic disputes. Counsellors attentively heard her concerns and subsequently invited her husband to the centre for discussions. After several rounds of counselling and constructive dialogue, communication between the couple improved significantly, leading to the resolution of the dispute. The woman later reported that her married life had returned to normalcy, with a markedly improved atmosphere at home, highlighting the centres' effectiveness in conflict resolution.

Enhancing Emergency Response and Awareness

To strengthen emergency response capabilities, each One Stop Centre has been equipped with a dedicated vehicle, enabling quicker outreach and assistance to women in distress, particularly in remote or urgent situations. Officials noted that these centres are not only providing immediate relief but also empowering women by raising awareness of their legal rights and the various support services available to them. This dual approach transforms the system into a more dependable and empowering lifeline during times of crisis, fostering resilience and self-advocacy among beneficiaries.

The expansion and success of Uttar Pradesh's One Stop Centres underscore a growing commitment to women's safety and welfare, setting a precedent for integrated support mechanisms in addressing gender-based violence and domestic challenges across the state.
