GSUDA officials have confirmed that the state is eligible for additional incentives totaling Rs 140 crore, provided all proposals continue to meet the scheme's stringent guidelines. The central government's Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment Scheme specifically targets the revitalization of historically significant city cores and marketplaces.
The scheme's broader objectives include promoting pedestrian-friendly urban environments, increasing public realm spaces, and enabling adaptive reuse of underutilized government assets. This comprehensive approach aims to preserve historical character while introducing modern amenities that enhance quality of life for residents and visitors alike.
This substantial investment represents one of the most significant urban renewal initiatives in recent Goa history, with potential to transform Vasco's urban landscape while preserving its historical significance as a key port town with rich cultural heritage.
