In a push to accelerate critical infrastructure work, Delhi's Public Works Department (PWD) minister, Parvesh Verma, took to the streets of south Delhi for a detailed inspection on Saturday. The minister directed officials to speed up ongoing projects and ensure quality compliance during the field visit.
On-Ground Review of Key Stretches
Accompanied by a team of IAS officers and engineers, Minister Verma inspected a significant route spanning from the MSO Building at ITO to Sarai Kale Khan, Ashram, Lajpat Nagar, Moolchand, Chirag Delhi, IIT Delhi, and RK Puram. The inspection focused on a comprehensive review of multiple civic aspects, including road resurfacing, drainage systems, footpaths, junction improvements, and the condition of pedestrian subways.
Verma stressed the urgent need for time-bound corrective action on all fronts. He instructed the officials present to immediately flag any unfinished works, deviations from quality standards, and coordination issues with other agencies to facilitate swift remedial measures.
'Govt on Wheels' Initiative in Action
This inspection was part of the minister's ongoing initiative called 'Govt on Wheels'. Under this program, Verma, along with senior officials, undertakes regular field visits to monitor project progress firsthand, moving governance beyond office walls.
"Joint inspections ensure that what is shown in files is actually visible on the ground and that the quality delivered matches what was promised. Governance cannot happen from air-conditioned offices alone," Verma stated during the visit. He emphasized that such direct engagements are crucial for bridging the gaps between planning and execution.
Focus on Functional and Aesthetic Upgrades
Beyond just functionality, the minister also paid attention to aesthetic elements of urban infrastructure. He personally inspected subway conditions and walls, underscoring the government's dual focus on creating infrastructure that is both functional and visually appealing for the citizens of Delhi.
The directive from the minister's office is clear: expedite all pending works, maintain stringent quality control, and ensure seamless inter-agency coordination to improve the daily commute and living experience for residents across south Delhi.
