In a significant step to enhance sanitation and waste management, the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) introduced five new JCB backhoe loader vehicles on Thursday at the Ajit Singh Nagar Garbage Transfer Station. The corporation procured these 74 HP machines at a cost of Rs 2.22 crore to expedite sanitation, drainage, and solid waste management operations throughout the city.
Inauguration Ceremony
Vijayawada MP Kesineni Sivanath (Chinni), along with Vijayawada Central MLA Bonda Umamaheswara Rao and civic body officials, officially inaugurated the new vehicles at the Ajit Singh Nagar Garbage Transfer Station.
MP's Remarks
Speaking on the occasion, MP Kesineni Sivanath emphasized that the addition of these vehicles would significantly improve garbage clearance and drainage maintenance, particularly in the Central constituency. He noted that the area previously suffered from poor sanitation and drainage issues, but ongoing development works are now transforming the locality.
MLA's Appreciation
The Central MLA highlighted that the city has been witnessing visible improvements in sanitation under the state government's 'Swachh Andhra' initiative. He stated that the newly inducted vehicles would strengthen civic services and revolutionize waste management systems in Vijayawada. The MLA also commended MP Kesineni Sivanath for securing funds and support for urban development projects.
Corporation's Plans
VMC in-charge chief engineer P Satya Kumari confirmed that the new machinery would be deployed for garbage lifting, drainage desilting, and other sanitation-related tasks across various parts of Vijayawada.
This initiative marks a major leap towards cleaner and more efficient waste management in the city, aligning with broader state-level sanitation goals.
