VMRDA Commissioner Conducts Field Inspection of Major Road-Widening Projects in Visakhapatnam
VMRDA metropolitan commissioner N. Tej Bharath recently conducted a comprehensive field inspection of significant road-widening works under the master plan road project in Visakhapatnam. The inspection covered key stretches including the Adavivaram–Shonthyam, Veppagunta–Pinagadi, and Gambheeram–Nerellavalasa–Tallavalasa roads, focusing on progress review and coordination.
Directives for Land Approvals and Compensation
During the inspection, Commissioner Bharath emphasized the critical need to secure approvals from landowners within the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) limits to prevent any objections that could delay the projects. He issued clear instructions for the prompt issuance of Transferable Development Rights (TDR) certificates and compensation to all affected parties, ensuring fairness and transparency in the process.
Infrastructure Coordination and Timelines
The commissioner directed various departments to address infrastructure challenges, including the relocation of 11 kV electricity poles that are currently positioned in the middle of roads. He stressed the importance of completing Wet Mix Macadam (WMM) and civil works on both sides of the roads and called for close coordination among revenue, rural water supply, APTRANSCO, and GVMC officials.
Stressing the urgency of the projects, Bharath stated that all roads must be opened for public use as per the scheduled timelines. He urged engineers, officials, and contractors to work in tandem to avoid any delays, highlighting the need for efficient project management.
Focus on Veppagunta–Pinagadi Road Expansion
A specific focus was placed on the 3.12 km-long, 60-foot-wide Veppagunta–Pinagadi road expansion. Commissioner Bharath advised that compensation be disbursed promptly and structures be removed faster to ensure the timely completion of this crucial stretch. This project is seen as vital for improving connectivity and reducing traffic congestion in the region.
Attendees and Next Steps
The inspection and subsequent coordination meeting were attended by key officials, including chief engineer Vinay Kumar, superintending engineers Bhavani Shankar and Madhusudana Rao, among others. Their presence underscored the collaborative effort required to execute these infrastructure enhancements successfully.
With these directives in place, the VMRDA aims to accelerate the road-widening projects, contributing to better urban mobility and development in Visakhapatnam.
