In a significant move to bolster road safety across Uttar Pradesh, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has announced the launch of sustained statewide campaigns aimed at rigorously monitoring the alertness and fitness levels of drivers operating heavy motor vehicles. This initiative comes amid growing concerns over accidents on high-speed corridors, often attributed to driver fatigue and carelessness.
UP CM Chairs Road Fund Committee Meeting in Lucknow
Concerned about the safety of road users, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath chaired a meeting of the Uttar Pradesh State Road Fund Management Committee in Lucknow on Sunday. The primary objective was to assess the preparedness of various departments in implementing road safety measures. Yogi, who heads this committee, emphasized the critical need for strong enforcement of existing rules and regulations.
Key Directives for Driver and Vehicle Fitness Checks
During the meeting, Yogi Adityanath issued clear directives for regular and random check-ups of individuals found at the steering wheels of heavy motor vehicles. He stressed that these checks must be conducted across the state to ensure drivers are physically and mentally fit for their demanding roles. Additionally, the fitness of the motor vehicles themselves will be thoroughly reviewed to prevent mechanical failures that could lead to accidents.
The Chief Minister highlighted that accidents involving heavy vehicles often result in severe consequences, making it imperative to address root causes like fatigue and negligence. By implementing these measures, the state aims to reduce such incidents and protect all road users.
Focus on Economic Development and Infrastructure
Yogi Adityanath underscored the importance of roads as the foundation of Uttar Pradesh's economic development. He noted that industries and investors prefer locations with strong connectivity and robust infrastructure. Therefore, enhancing road safety is not just a public welfare issue but also a strategic move to attract business and boost the state's economy.
The meeting reviewed the proposed action plan and financial provisions earmarked for the fiscal year 2025-26. Yogi directed that annual action plans of various departments should be prepared and approved by the end of April to ensure timely execution of projects.
Embracing Technology and Ensuring Accountability
To improve efficiency, the Chief Minister advocated for exploring new technologies that could reduce both construction costs and the time required to complete projects. He insisted that the results of every project should be visible on the ground within the stipulated timeframe, ensuring accountability and tangible outcomes.
Furthermore, the committee will evaluate and review the performance of various stakeholders at least twice a year. This regular assessment is designed to maintain high standards and address any issues promptly, fostering a culture of continuous improvement in road safety and infrastructure development.
This comprehensive approach by the Uttar Pradesh government reflects a proactive stance towards creating safer roads and a more conducive environment for economic growth, aligning with broader national goals of infrastructure enhancement.
