Yogi Government Greenlights Major 500-Bed Working Women's Hostel in Gorakhpur
In a significant stride towards bolstering women's empowerment and providing secure accommodation, the Yogi Adityanath-led Uttar Pradesh government has officially sanctioned the construction of a state-of-the-art 500-bed working women's hostel in Gorakhpur. This ambitious project falls under the Mukhyamantri Shramjeevi Mahila Chhatravas Yojana, a flagship scheme aimed at supporting employed women across the state.
Project Execution and Financial Details
DM Deepak Meena has confirmed that the Uttar Pradesh Rajkiya Nirman Nigam Ltd, specifically its Gorakhpur unit, has been appointed as the executing agency by the women and child welfare department. The total estimated cost for this comprehensive facility is set at Rs 47.38 crore. Out of this sanctioned amount, an initial instalment of Rs 16.58 crore has already been disbursed to kickstart the construction process.
The tender for the project was officially floated on January 28, with the technical bid opening scheduled for March 6. Authorities are actively planning for the foundation stone laying ceremony, which is anticipated to be conducted by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath himself in March, marking a pivotal moment for the initiative.
Hostel Location and Infrastructure Specifications
The hostel will be constructed on a spacious 6,640 square metre plot of land adjacent to the Chargawan block campus. The architectural plan includes a modern eight-floor building equipped with stilt parking to accommodate vehicles. The facility will comprise 250 rooms designed with flexible occupancy options, including single, double, and triple-bed configurations to cater to diverse needs.

Parallel Development: 75-Bed Hostel Under Construction
Simultaneously, another working women's hostel project is progressing in Gorakhpur under the Mukhyamantri Vaishvik Nagarodaya Yojana. This 75-bed facility, located near Sahara Estate, involves an investment of Rs 18.08 crore. Construction is already underway, with approximately 40% of the work completed to date. Officials project that this hostel will be fully operational and ready for occupancy by June 2027, further expanding accommodation options for employed women in the region.
