Amit Shah Inaugurates Major Cooperative Projects Worth Rs 265 Crore in Gujarat
Union Cooperation Minister Amit Shah has inaugurated and laid foundation stones for a series of significant cooperative sector projects in Gujarat, with a total value of Rs 265.30 crore. The inauguration ceremony took place on Tuesday in Gandhinagar, where Shah chaired a crucial meeting of cooperation department ministers from all states across India.
Key Inaugurations and Foundation Stone Ceremonies
During the event, Amit Shah inaugurated several high-value projects that are set to boost the cooperative economy in the region. A newly constructed ethanol distillery plant at Nandod in Narmada district, developed by the Shree Narmada Sugar Industry Cooperative Society at a cost of Rs 40 crore, was officially opened. This plant is expected to enhance biofuel production and support sustainable energy initiatives.
Additionally, Shah inaugurated a 30MW power co-generation plant at Nandod, which will contribute to renewable energy generation, along with an organic potash plant aimed at promoting organic farming practices. In a significant move for the dairy sector, he also inaugurated a newly constructed warehouse and a whey protein concentration powder plant at Khatraj in Anand. This facility, established by Amul (Kheda District Cooperative Milk Producers Union) with an investment of Rs 75 crore, is designed to add value to dairy by-products and support nutritional product manufacturing.
Foundation Stones Laid for Warehousing Infrastructure
To further strengthen agricultural infrastructure, foundation stones were laid for warehouses at Savarkundla and Patan Agricultural Produce Market Committees (APMCs). These warehouses are intended to improve storage facilities for farmers, reduce post-harvest losses, and enhance market access for agricultural produce. The projects underscore the government's focus on empowering cooperative societies and boosting rural economies through targeted investments.
The meeting in Gandhinagar brought together cooperation ministers from various states, highlighting the national importance of cooperative development. Amit Shah emphasized the role of cooperatives in driving economic growth and self-reliance, particularly in sectors like agriculture, dairy, and renewable energy. The initiatives launched are expected to create employment opportunities, increase farmer incomes, and promote sustainable industrial practices across Gujarat.
This comprehensive push in the cooperative sector aligns with broader efforts to revitalize rural economies and support India's green energy transition. With these projects, Gujarat is poised to see enhanced productivity and innovation in its cooperative enterprises, setting a benchmark for other states to follow.
