Andhra Pradesh Government Presents Massive Rs 53,752 Crore Agriculture Budget
The Andhra Pradesh government has demonstrated its strong commitment to revitalizing the rural economy and transforming farming into a profitable enterprise by presenting a substantial budget allocation of Rs 53,752.12 crore for agriculture and allied sectors. This comprehensive financial plan was unveiled on Saturday, signaling a strategic push to strengthen the agricultural foundation of the state.
Major Focus on Irrigation and Water Security
A significant portion of this budget, specifically Rs 14,276.89 crore, has been earmarked for the maintenance and construction of irrigation projects. This substantial investment underscores the government's dedicated focus on ensuring water security for farmers, which is considered fundamental to agricultural stability and productivity.
Agriculture Minister K Atchannaidu presented this agriculture budget in the legislative assembly, emphasizing that the state can only achieve true economic prosperity when its rural economy becomes robust and self-sustaining. "Agriculture must become profitable. Only then will the rural economy thrive, which in turn will significantly aid in the overall progress of Andhra Pradesh," the minister stated during his address.
Impressive Growth and Ambitious Targets
Minister Atchannaidu highlighted that Andhra Pradesh has already recorded an impressive 7.83 percent growth rate in the agriculture sector. The state contributes nearly 10 percent to the country's total agricultural production, positioning it as a key agricultural hub in India.
As part of the ambitious "Swarnandhra-2047" vision, the government has identified 11 specific crops as growth engines to achieve a targeted 15 percent annual growth rate in the agricultural sector. This strategic identification aims to focus resources and efforts on crops with maximum potential for economic impact.
Farmer Welfare Initiatives and Direct Support
The minister detailed several farmer welfare initiatives that are already underway. Under the "Annadata Sukhibhav" and "PM Kisan" schemes, the government is providing Rs 20,000 annually per farmer family to support their agricultural activities and livelihood.
"Pending arrears related to grain procurement have been cleared to provide immediate financial support to farmers," Atchannaidu announced. He also revealed that the government has launched the "Rayatanna Meekosam" initiative, which directly addresses farmers' grievances and ensures timely assistance for their concerns.
Technology Integration and Modernization
One of the key principles to achieve the Swarnandhra-2047 vision is the implementation of "Farmer Agritech." The government is actively introducing modern technologies to revolutionize traditional farming practices.
These technological interventions include:
- Artificial intelligence applications for precision farming
- Internet of Things (IoT) devices for monitoring crop conditions
- Drone technology for surveying and spraying
- Robotics for automated farming processes
"These modern technologies are being introduced to substantially improve productivity while simultaneously reducing input costs for farmers," the minister explained. He added that the government is taking concrete steps to ensure irrigation water reaches every acre of agricultural land across the state.
Key Budget Allocations for Specific Programs
The comprehensive agriculture budget includes targeted allocations for crucial programs that directly impact farmers' daily operations and financial security:
- Rs 13,722 crore for providing free power to farmers
- Rs 6,600 crore for the Annadatha Sukhibava crop insurance scheme
- Rs 204 crore for developing oil palm plantations
- Rs 475 crore for promoting micro irrigation systems
- Rs 175 crore for integrated development of horticulture
Call to Youth and Future Vision
Minister Atchannaidu concluded his presentation with an appeal to the youth of Andhra Pradesh, urging them to view agriculture as a viable and profitable career option. "With the integration of modern technology and substantial government support, agriculture presents tremendous opportunities for the younger generation," he emphasized.
