Belagavi Gets 100 Electric Buses Under PM-e Bus Seva

Belagavi's Public Transport System Receives Major Green Upgrade

Belagavi's public transport network is poised for a significant modernization with the central government approving 100 electric buses and essential infrastructure under the PM-e Bus Seva scheme. This initiative marks a crucial step towards cleaner and more sustainable urban mobility solutions for the city.

Parliamentary Approval and Funding Details

According to information from the office of Rajya Sabha MP Iranna Kadadi, the approval was officially confirmed during the recent budget session of Parliament in New Delhi. MP Kadadi raised a specific question regarding the status of electric bus services for Belagavi, to which Union Minister of State for Housing and Urban Affairs Tokhan Sahu provided detailed responses.

The minister informed Parliament that the Centre has sanctioned Rs 6.8 crore specifically for establishing a control room and related infrastructure in Belagavi. Additionally, supporting facilities including charging points, depot infrastructure, and technical systems necessary for the efficient operation of the electric bus service have received approval.

Broader Karnataka Electric Bus Initiative

In a related development, MP Kadadi's release highlighted that 750 electric buses have been approved for 10 cities across Karnataka. The Centre has sanctioned Rs 77 crore for depot construction and other infrastructure development to support this statewide electric mobility push.

Complementary Smart City Developments

Belagavi's transportation improvements extend beyond electric buses. Under the Smart City project, the city has already developed 12.3 kilometers of smart roads, featuring pedestrian-friendly stretches and dedicated cycle tracks to promote alternative transportation modes.

Furthermore, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) ring road project is progressing to alleviate traffic congestion. The tender process for the first phase is currently underway, while Detailed Project Report (DPR) preparation is in progress for the remaining phases of this crucial infrastructure development.

Environmental and Urban Impact

This comprehensive approach to transportation development represents a multi-faceted strategy to transform Belagavi's urban mobility landscape. The electric bus initiative specifically aims to reduce carbon emissions and operational costs while providing residents with more reliable and environmentally friendly public transportation options.

The combination of electric buses, smart roads, and ring road development creates a synergistic effect that addresses both immediate transportation needs and long-term urban planning goals for sustainable growth.
