Chandigarh Boosts Education Aid for Construction Workers' Kids

The Chandigarh Building & Other Construction Workers Welfare Board has approved a substantial enhancement in educational assistance for children of registered construction workers. The revised scheme significantly increases financial support across all levels of education, from primary school to professional courses.

Revised Educational Assistance Details

Under the new scheme, students in Classes I to V will now receive Rs 7,500, up from the previous Rs 4,000. For Classes VI to VIII, assistance has been raised from Rs 7,000 to Rs 10,000. Students in Classes IX and X will get Rs 25,000, nearly double the earlier Rs 13,000, while those in Classes XI and XII will receive Rs 35,000 instead of Rs 25,000.

Financial support for ITI and diploma courses has been enhanced from Rs 30,000 to Rs 45,000. Graduation course assistance increased from Rs 50,000 to Rs 60,000. Students pursuing BTech and other professional courses will now receive Rs 75,000, up from Rs 30,000. Medical students enrolled in MBBS courses will get Rs 1 lakh, doubling the previous Rs 50,000. Assistance for MA and post-graduate diploma courses has also been raised from Rs 30,000 to Rs 75,000.

New Cash Incentive for Academic Excellence

To encourage high performance, the Board introduced a cash incentive scheme for Classes X, XI and XII. Students securing 85% to 90% marks in board examinations will receive Rs 1 lakh. Those scoring between 91% and 95% will be awarded Rs 1.5 lakh, while students with more than 96% marks will get Rs 2 lakh.

Enhanced Social Welfare Benefits

Beyond education, the Board increased several welfare benefits. Monthly pensions for old age, disability and widows have been raised from Rs 2,000 to Rs 3,000. Financial assistance under the Kanyadaan scheme increased from Rs 51,000 to Rs 75,000. Support for purchasing bicycles and work tools is now Rs 15,000 every three years, replacing the earlier one-time grant of Rs 5,000. Maternity benefit has been increased from Rs 21,000 to Rs 31,000, and the fixed deposit for a girl child has been doubled from Rs 25,000 to Rs 50,000.
