Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan Launches Major Rural Development Push in Tripura
In a significant move to bolster rural infrastructure and governance, Union Minister for Agriculture and Rural Development, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, alongside Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha, cabinet members, and MPs from the state, officially launched 179 rural development initiatives with a total investment of Rs 546.79 crore. The event, held in Agartala, marks a pivotal step in enhancing the socio-economic landscape of Tripura's villages.
Conference on New VB-G RAM G Act 2025 Replaces MGNREGA
Chouhan presided over an inaugural conference for elected representatives ranging from panchayats to parliament, focusing on the implementation of the newly enacted VB-G RAM G Act 2025. This legislation has replaced the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA), aiming to address identified gaps and modernize rural development frameworks. The conference sought to raise awareness among leaders about their critical responsibilities in ensuring the effective execution of programs under this new law.
Highlighting the Act's significance, Chouhan emphasized that it strengthens the existing framework by introducing measures to tackle contemporary rural issues. He noted that the conference was expected to chart a coordinated strategy to strengthen local governance and improve program delivery, ensuring that benefits reach the grassroots level efficiently.
Union Budget 2026-27: A Groundbreaking Investment in Northeast India
Chouhan characterized the Union Budget 2026-27 as groundbreaking and forward-looking, particularly highlighting its record investment in the northeast region to position it as a key driver of India's growth. The budget includes a substantial 21% increase in allocation for the rural development ministry, designed to benefit villages, marginalized groups, farmers, youth, and women.
He underscored the consistent decline in poverty under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership and emphasized the budget's role in empowering the underprivileged. Chouhan added that the new VB-G RAM G Act ensures 125 days of rural employment, up from 100 days under MGNREGA, aligning with the vision of a developed India by 2047 and aiming to lift 25 crore people out of poverty.
Post-Event Visit to Tripureswari Temple
Following the official proceedings, Minister Chouhan visited the Tripureswari temple in Udaipur, one of the 51 Shaktipeeths, where he offered puja. This visit underscored the cultural and spiritual significance of the region, blending development initiatives with local traditions.
The launch of these projects and the introduction of the new Act represent a comprehensive approach to rural development, focusing on employment, governance, and regional growth.
