New Delhi: Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Monday launched a special rescue campaign to provide immediate assistance to destitute, sick, and helpless people. The CM flagged off a fleet of specially equipped ambulances and rescue vehicles as part of the five-day intensive drive, which will run from May 11 to May 15 across all 13 districts of the city.
Campaign Details
The ambulances and rescue vehicles will reach out to homeless, sick, and abandoned individuals living on roadsides, pavements, and public spaces across Delhi, transporting them to safe shelter facilities. Those rescued will be taken to Apna Ghar Ashram, where arrangements have been made for their treatment, care, food, medical support, and rehabilitation.
CM Gupta stated, "If the families of rescued individuals are identified and willing to take them back, efforts will be made to reunite them with their loved ones after recovery. For those with no family support, the ashram will continue to provide care with dignity, compassion and humanity."
Implementation and Partners
The initiative is being carried out by the Social Welfare Department, in collaboration with social organisations Apna Ghar Ashram and Seva Bharti. Under the campaign, rescue teams are identifying and helping homeless, abandoned, sick, and differently-abled men and women living on roads, railway stations, bus stands, religious places, and other public areas.
Priority is being given to those suffering from serious illnesses such as tuberculosis, cancer, and AIDS, providing them with safe shelter, treatment, and proper care.
Resources and First Phase Success
The campaign is being executed with 19 special rescue ambulances, 10 support vehicles, nearly 100 staff members, and 50 dedicated volunteers working round the clock. To ensure effective implementation, a dedicated 24x7 one-window system has also been developed in coordination with the Social Welfare Department.
In the first phase of the drive, around 20 people have already been successfully rescued.
