New Delhi: Major infrastructure and welfare initiatives aimed at accelerating Delhi's development are poised to gain significant momentum under the current Union Budget, according to Delhi minister Parvesh Verma. Speaking on Tuesday, Verma emphasized that enhanced central support, faster execution mechanisms, and a long-term vision for nation-building are key drivers behind this push.
Project-Centric Approach with Focus on Roads and Public Services
The Budget reflects a project-centric approach that prioritizes critical areas such as roads, public services, and economic stability, while simultaneously strengthening global confidence in India's growth trajectory. Verma noted that this strategic focus is essential for sustainable urban development.
Significant Boost to Road Infrastructure
Delhi's infrastructure push will see a substantial boost, particularly in road development. The Public Works Department received Rs 805 crore for road works in the current financial year. Looking ahead to 2026-27, the department plans to seek central allocations of Rs 1,200 crore for large-scale road strengthening, expansion, and modernization projects.
"With stronger central backing, the quality of Delhi's roads will improve, traffic congestion will reduce, and commuter safety will be enhanced," Verma stated, highlighting the direct benefits for residents.
Broader Economic Context and Global Stature
Placing these projects in a broader economic context, Verma pointed out that India's rising global stature under Prime Minister Narendra Modi is creating favorable conditions for overall growth. He cited the recent trade deal with the United States as a sign of increasing international trust in India's economic strength.
"This trade agreement will benefit exporters, attract investment, and open up new opportunities across various sectors, which will also positively impact Delhi's economy," he explained.
Long-Term Vision and Next-Generation Budget
Describing the Union Budget as a "next-generation budget" focused on long-term outcomes, Verma emphasized its forward-looking nature. "It is not about what we gain today, but about what India and Delhi will become tomorrow. This budget aligns perfectly with the vision of a developed India by 2047," he remarked.
Improved Coordination and Governance Stability
The minister also highlighted that improved coordination between the Centre and the Delhi government has helped restart several long-pending projects. Over the past 11 months, this collaboration has brought stability, accountability, and efficiency to governance in the city, ensuring smoother implementation of development initiatives.
Welfare Initiatives and Political Commitments
Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva underscored the importance of welfare initiatives alongside infrastructure development. He noted that the BJP government under Chief Minister Rekha Gupta is actively fulfilling promises made before the 2025 elections, demonstrating a commitment to public welfare.
BJP leader Ramvir Singh Bidhuri added that strong leadership at the Centre and stable governance in Delhi are ensuring faster execution of projects and direct benefits to citizens. "Delhi is now witnessing visible change on the ground, which reinforces public confidence in the party's development agenda," he asserted.
