FDA Seizes Unlicensed Cosmetics in Mumbai, Karad

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) conducted inspections of cosmetic sellers in Karad and Mumbai, seizing allegedly unlicensed and misbranded cosmetics worth Rs 5.16 lakh in the city and freezing Rs 29 lakh worth of stock in Karad.

Raids at Crawford Market

At Crawford Market, officials raided a shop named Beauty Centre and seized stock worth more than Rs 1 lakh. This included products making misleading body-shaping claims, such as "Daily Divine Natural Breast Enlarge", "Daily Divine Natural Butt Enhancement" and "Daily Divine Natural Intense Fat Burner" essential oil blends.

"We are verifying if these products are manufactured within the state," said a senior FDA official.

Action in Kandivali

Similar raids were also carried out in Kandivali (W). According to officials, the seller, Radiant Creations, manufactured and stocked drugs and cosmetics for sale without the required valid licences. The machinery and raw materials used for the production process were also found on the premises.

A total of Rs 3,96,830 worth of stock was seized from the premises, which included drugs like anti-itching and anti-fungal creams, cosmetics, raw materials and manufacturing machinery.

Legal Proceedings

Officials said legal proceedings have been initiated under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940.
