Giriraj Singh: Bihar to Become India's Jute Gateway

Union Minister Giriraj Singh Announces Plan to Develop Bihar as India's Jute Gateway

In a significant move to boost the jute industry, Union Minister Giriraj Singh declared on Thursday that the Central government is formulating a comprehensive plan to establish Bihar as the "Gateway of Jute" in the country. Speaking at the concluding day of the two-day National Jute Corporation Foundation Day ceremony in Patna, Singh emphasized that this initiative will be executed at three critical levels: production, processing, and marketing, to achieve the ambitious objective.

Focus on Farmer Welfare and Jute Productivity

The event, attended by Agriculture Minister Ram Kripal Yadav, along with numerous farmers and officials, saw the distribution of high-yield certified jute seeds to farmers. This step reaffirms the Jute Corporation of India (JCI)'s commitment to enhancing productivity, promoting sustainability, and ensuring farmer welfare. The ceremony also highlighted ongoing initiatives such as Jute ICARE and Jute Mark India, aimed at advancing the sector.

Singh elaborated on the Centre's strategy to make jute cultivation more profitable, projecting that farmers involved in jute production could earn profits ranging from Rs 1 lakh to Rs 2 lakh per acre. He urged officials to prioritize the manufacturing of clothes and other fabrics from jute, stating, "This will broaden the scope of jute utilization and enable farmers to secure better prices for their produce."

Political Criticism Amidst Economic Discussions

Later, in a conversation with reporters, Singh turned his attention to political matters, criticizing Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for his recent comments on Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the context of the Iran war. Singh described the opposition leader as a "naïve child" who lacks awareness of appropriate timing and content in his statements.

He contrasted this with the government's efforts to stabilize oil prices in India, noting that while global oil prices have surged by 15% to 20% in countries like the US and England, India is striving to maintain price stability despite its dependence on imports. Singh praised PM Modi's initiatives to reduce the public's financial burden by cutting excise duty on oil, accusing Rahul Gandhi of attempting to "create confusion and anger among the public and use such situations to provoke unrest."

The announcement marks a pivotal step in revitalizing Bihar's agricultural and industrial sectors, with a clear focus on leveraging jute as a key economic driver while addressing broader political and economic challenges.
