Gorakhpur Women Achieve Financial Freedom Through Dairy Entrepreneurship Under Yogi's Vision

The transformative impact of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's vision for women's economic empowerment through the state rural livelihood mission is now clearly visible on the ground in Gorakhpur division. District Magistrate Deepak Meena has revealed that approximately 47,000 rural women have achieved remarkable financial self-reliance by actively participating in the thriving dairy sector.

Empowering Women Through Collective Enterprise

These empowered women are associated with the Shri Baba Gorakhnath Kripa Milk Producer Organisation (MPO), which was established under the Uttar Pradesh State Rural Livelihood Mission with crucial support from the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB). What makes this initiative particularly noteworthy is that the rural women themselves serve as shareholders in the organisation, ensuring they have direct ownership and stake in its success.

Remarkable Financial Performance

Since its operational commencement on November 26, 2023, the MPO has achieved an impressive turnover of Rs 192 crore over a period of two years and two months, up to January 31, 2026. According to CEO Dhanraj Sahni, the organisation has disbursed more than Rs 155 crore directly to women shareholders, substantially strengthening household incomes across the region.

Daily Operations and Economic Impact

Women members collectively supply over 1.5 lakh litres of milk daily through a network of more than 500 milk pooling points strategically located across Gorakhpur, Maharajganj, Deoria, and Kushinagar districts. This milk is systematically supplied to Mother Dairy, creating a sustainable supply chain.

The economic transformation is evident in individual success stories. Approximately 2,000 women associated with the MPO have already emerged as 'Lakhpati Didis,' while others earn a consistent average monthly income ranging between Rs 7,000 and Rs 8,000 directly from their homes.

Modeled on Success and Rewarding Shareholders

Modeled on Bundelkhand's successful Balini Milk Producer Company, the MPO has implemented innovative reward mechanisms. During Diwali celebrations, the organisation distributed Rs 53.16 lakh as loyalty incentives and dividends to women shareholders. Dividends were paid at Rs 8 per equity share, with each share having a face value of Rs 100, clearly reflecting the growing success of women-led dairy entrepreneurship in the region.

This initiative demonstrates how strategic government support combined with women's entrepreneurship can create sustainable economic ecosystems in rural areas, transforming household economies and empowering communities through structured livelihood programs.
