Kerala Minister Riyas Credits KIIFB for Unprecedented Infrastructure Progress
Kerala has witnessed remarkable and unprecedented advancement in its infrastructure sector over recent years, according to Public Works and Tourism Minister P A Mohamed Riyas. The minister made these remarks while inaugurating the newly constructed Chirayinkeezhu railway overbridge (RoB) in Thiruvananthapuram district.
KIIFB's Crucial Role in Accelerating Development
Minister Riyas emphasized that the support provided by the Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board (KIIFB) has been instrumental in accelerating the state's development momentum. "Development projects that would typically have required 30 years to complete were successfully realized within just the past 10 years through KIIFB," he stated, highlighting the board's significant contribution to infrastructure growth.
Surpassing Infrastructure Targets
The minister detailed the government's ambitious infrastructure goals, noting that the initial target was to complete 100 bridges within a five-year period. However, by the end of the term, this objective was substantially exceeded with more than 150 bridges successfully dedicated to public use, demonstrating exceptional progress beyond expectations.
Chirayinkeezhu Railway Overbridge Details
The newly inaugurated Chirayinkeezhu railway overbridge represents a key achievement in this infrastructure push. Constructed at a cost of Rs 25 crore under the KIIFB scheme, the bridge features:
- Length: 430 meters
- Total Width: 10.15 meters
- Design: Two-lane carriageway with pedestrian pathways on both sides
This infrastructure project is specifically aimed at alleviating traffic congestion and enhancing safety for commuters in the region.
Official Inauguration Ceremony
The inaugural function was conducted near the railway overbridge premises, with V Sasi, MLA, presiding over the event. Distinguished attendees included:

- Chirayinkeezhu grama panchayat president S Sindhu
- RBDCK general manager M Ansar
Minister Riyas concluded by reaffirming the government's commitment to continuing this accelerated pace of infrastructure development across Kerala, leveraging KIIFB's framework to transform the state's public works landscape.
