Kurukshetra Leads Haryana: 3,807 Homes Get Rooftop Solar Under PM Surya Ghar
Kurukshetra Tops Haryana in PM Surya Ghar Solar Scheme

Kurukshetra district has surged to the top position in Haryana for its impressive implementation of the Prime Minister's Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana. The district has successfully installed rooftop solar power plants on a remarkable 3,807 houses, marking a significant milestone in the state's renewable energy drive.

Record Progress and Ambitious Targets

Out of a total of 5,631 applications received from residents, the installations at 3,807 households have already been completed and commissioned. With a district-wide target of setting up 4,677 solar plants by March 2026, Kurukshetra has already accomplished 81.40% of its goal, firmly establishing itself as the state leader in this flagship central scheme.

The progress was reviewed in a meeting of the district-level committee chaired by Kurukshetra Deputy Commissioner Vishram Kumar Meena at the Mini Secretariat on Friday. A detailed report was presented by Madan Gopal Jindal, Superintending Engineer of the Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (UHBVN).

Financial Benefits and Expanded Eligibility

DC Meena emphasized that the scheme must reach every eligible household. He commended UHBVN officials for their systematic implementation and widespread public awareness campaigns. The scheme offers substantial financial incentives:

  • Central Government Subsidy: Beneficiaries receive ₹30,000 for a 1 kW system, ₹60,000 for 2 kW, and ₹78,000 for a 3 kW rooftop solar plant.
  • State Government Top-up: The Haryana government provides additional aid to families with an annual income below ₹1.80 lakh—₹25,000 for 1 kW and ₹50,000 for a 2 kW system.

In a significant expansion, DC Meena announced that Group Housing Societies and Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) are now eligible for combined central and state financial assistance of ₹18,000 per kW (up to 500 kW) for installing solar plants for common facilities like streetlights and water pumps, including for EV charging stations.

Powerful Advantages for Households

Explaining the direct benefits to citizens, Meena highlighted that households can avail of up to 300 units of free electricity every month. With total subsidies potentially reaching up to ₹1.10 lakh, beneficiaries can also earn extra income by selling surplus power back to the grid. The initiative is a major step towards environmental conservation and national energy self-reliance.

Driving Awareness and Clearing Dues

To ensure the scheme's success reaches every corner, DC Meena directed power department officials to organize awareness camps in every major village across all blocks. 303 such camps have already been conducted between October and January to educate the public.

In a related directive, the DC instructed all government departments to clear their pending electricity dues, which amount to nearly ₹11.95 crore, at the earliest. This move underscores the administration's commitment to both fiscal responsibility and promoting sustainable energy practices across all sectors.
