Tamil Nadu's Magalir Urimai Scheme Disburses ₹5,000 to 1.3 Crore Women, Deputy CM Announces

In a significant boost to women's welfare in Tamil Nadu, Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin declared on Monday that the disbursement of ₹5,000 to 1.3 crore women beneficiaries under the Magalir Urimai Thogai scheme has brought immense happiness across the state. He further assured that Chief Minister M K Stalin's promise to increase the monthly assistance from ₹1,000 to ₹2,000 will be fulfilled soon, reinforcing the government's commitment to empowering women through financial support.

Udhayanidhi Inaugurates New Lalgudi Bus Stand and Municipality Office

During his visit, Udhayanidhi Stalin inaugurated a state-of-the-art bus stand in Lalgudi, constructed at a cost of ₹31.8 crore, alongside a new municipality office built for ₹4.69 crore. Addressing a gathering, he highlighted these projects as part of the Kalaignar Urban Development Scheme, aimed at modernizing infrastructure to meet the town's evolving needs.

The new bus stand, spread over 5.3 acres along Poovalur Road, replaces an outdated and inadequate facility. It is designed to accommodate 40 buses and includes:

  • 120 shops for commercial activities
  • Two restaurants for travelers
  • Two ATMs for financial convenience
  • A drivers' rest room for comfort
  • Two-wheeler parking and all essential amenities

Allegations of Conspiracies and Development Claims

In his speech, Udhayanidhi alleged that there have been conspiracies to halt the Magalir Urimai Thogai scheme ahead of the upcoming assembly election. "Today, the people of Tamil Nadu are filled with joy, and the women even more so. Those who attempted to derail this scheme are now left in shock," he stated, emphasizing the scheme's popularity and impact.

He also praised Lalgudi as the fastest-developing urban local body in Trichy district, second only to the Trichy city corporation. Upgraded to a second-grade municipality in 2021, Lalgudi currently maintains 45.7 km of roads and 17.3 km of stormwater drains. A new 7,000 sqft office building has been constructed near the bus stand to enhance administrative efficiency.

Additional Development Projects in Trichy

Meanwhile, Minister K N Nehru inaugurated 22 new projects in the Trichy corporation, further showcasing the government's focus on urban development and public welfare across the region. These initiatives underscore a broader effort to improve infrastructure and services, aligning with the state's growth objectives.

The combined efforts in welfare schemes and infrastructure development reflect Tamil Nadu's proactive approach to addressing community needs and fostering economic progress.
