Maharashtra Achieves Second Place in National PM Surya Ghar Solar Scheme

In a significant advancement for the clean energy movement, Maharashtra has secured the second position nationwide in the implementation of the Central government's flagship initiative, the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana. This milestone underscores the state's commitment to promoting sustainable energy solutions and reducing carbon emissions.

Nagpur District Leads State Performance in Rooftop Solar Installations

Driving Maharashtra's impressive performance, Nagpur district emerged as the top performer in rooftop solar installations across the state. The achievement was formally recognized and celebrated at the Khasdar Industrial Festival held in Nagpur. This event was organized by the All India Renewable Energy Association (AIREA) in collaboration with the Association for Industrial Development (AID), an initiative inspired by Union Minister Nitin Gadkari.

Senior officials, industry representatives, and key stakeholders gathered to mark this pivotal milestone and engage in discussions on the rapid expansion of solar energy adoption. The festival served as a platform to highlight the collaborative efforts driving the success of the solar scheme.

Chief Minister Fadnavis Lauds Implementation Efforts

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis attended the ceremony and commended the diligent efforts of power utilities and administrative teams in ensuring the effective implementation of the scheme throughout Maharashtra. His presence underscored the state government's support for renewable energy initiatives.

Officials from the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), REC Limited, MSEDCL, and Jan Samarth were also present at the event, emphasizing the multi-agency coordination essential for the scheme's progress.

MSEDCL Officers Honored with AIREA Renewable Energy Jewels Awards

In recognition of their instrumental role in driving the scheme's success, several MSEDCL officers were honored with the prestigious AIREA Renewable Energy Jewels award. The felicitated individuals included:

  • Sachin Talewar, Director of Operations and Projects
  • Prasad Reshme, Executive Director of Projects
  • Dilip Dodke, Chief Engineer of the Nagpur Zone
  • Pankaj Tagadpalliwar, Chief Engineer of Special Projects
  • Rahul Sontakke, Executive Engineer

The awards were presented by industrialist Girdhari Mantri and Vishwas Pathak, Independent Director of the MSEB Holding Company, highlighting the recognition from both corporate and governmental sectors.

National Momentum and Regional Contributions

The PM Surya Ghar scheme has accelerated rooftop solar installations across India, enabling households to generate clean electricity while reducing dependence on conventional power sources. According to MNRE officials, more than 6,500 rooftop solar projects are installed daily nationwide, indicating the growing momentum and widespread adoption of this initiative.

Within the Vidarbha region, districts such as Amravati and Buldhana also secured positions among the top 10 performers in Maharashtra, strengthening the region's contribution to the state's solar mission. This regional success further bolsters Maharashtra's standing as a leader in renewable energy efforts.
