Solar Revolution Dawns on Six Nellore Villages Under Central Government Initiative
The rural landscape of Nellore district in Andhra Pradesh is poised for a significant transformation as six villages have been officially shortlisted under the ambitious PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijili Yojana. This central government initiative, supported by state authorities, aims to catalyze a solar revolution in selected rural communities with populations exceeding 5,000 according to the latest census data.
Comprehensive Solar Infrastructure for Every Household
Nellore MP Vemireddy Prabhakar Reddy has confirmed that the identified villages—Leguntapadu, Bitragunta, Mahimaluru, Kalivelapalem, and Kakupalli—will receive extensive solar installations. The program mandates that every household in these villages will be equipped with:
- Solar home lighting systems
- Solar street lights for public illumination
- Solar-powered pumps to support agricultural activities
This holistic approach ensures that both domestic and community energy needs are addressed through sustainable means.
Objectives: Green Energy and Self-Reliance
According to MP Reddy, the primary goals of this initiative are multifaceted:
- To promote the widespread adoption of green, pollution-free energy in rural areas, reducing dependence on conventional power sources.
- To enhance village self-reliance in power generation, ensuring stable electricity supply even in remote locations.
- To modernize and improve the existing electricity infrastructure, providing reliable solar connections to all households in the selected villages.
This initiative represents a strategic shift towards decentralized, renewable energy solutions that empower rural communities.
Incentive for Excellence: Model Solar Village Recognition
An exciting competitive element has been introduced to encourage optimal implementation. Once the project moves into the execution phase, the village among the six that demonstrates the best performance in solar adoption and efficiency will be awarded the prestigious title of District Model Solar Village.
This recognition comes with a substantial Rs 1 crore incentive from the Central government, specifically earmarked for comprehensive village development projects. This financial reward aims to motivate communities to fully embrace and maximize the benefits of solar technology.
The PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijili Yojana is set to not only illuminate these Nellore villages but also serve as a replicable model for sustainable rural electrification across India, aligning with national goals for energy independence and environmental conservation.
