North India's First Semiconductor Project Inaugurated in Jewar
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath officially launched North India's inaugural semiconductor project, named India Chip, in Jewar on Saturday. The groundbreaking ceremony marked a pivotal moment for the region's technological advancement.
Vision for Economic and Technological Leadership
During his address, CM Yogi Adityanath expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for steering India toward becoming an economic superpower and a global technology hub. He emphasized that the economy, security, and overall development of the nation in the 21st century will heavily depend on semiconductor technology.
"Last year, the Prime Minister, while addressing Semicon India, stated that oil was black gold but the chip is a digital diamond. The establishment of this semiconductor project is the realization of the PM's vision," Adityanath remarked, acknowledging Modi's role in initiating the project.
Transformation of Uttar Pradesh's Business Environment
The Chief Minister highlighted that his government has focused on development with "scale and speed" in alignment with the Prime Minister's vision. He credited the PM's concept of Ease of Doing Business for fostering healthy competition among states.
Since assuming office in 2017, the UP government has cultivated an ecosystem of "Fearless Business and Trust of Doing Business." Yogi Adityanath noted that Uttar Pradesh is emerging as a leading state in deregulation and ease of doing business, attracting significant investments.
Project Details and Global Context
The semiconductor project is being established in the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority area with an investment of Rs 3,700 crore. It represents a joint venture between HCL and Foxconn, focusing on the first display driver semiconductor OSAT (Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test) unit in the region.
"The world witnessed India's development as a tech hub over the past four days, where more than 110 countries and nearly 10 lakh people participated in the AI Impact Summit in Delhi. This semiconductor project is extremely important for Jewar," the CM stated, linking the initiative to broader technological progress.
From Lawlessness to a Development Jewel
Yogi Adityanath contrasted the current scenario with the past, explaining that under previous governments, the Jewar area was notorious for lawlessness and insecurity, where residents hesitated to leave their homes after sunset.
Now, Jewar is transforming into a "jewel," evolving into a major hub for mobile manufacturing and electronic components. This shift underscores the region's rapid development and improved security under the current administration.
Industry Leaders Express Gratitude
HCL Group Chairperson Roshni Nadar Malhotra extended her thanks to the central and Uttar Pradesh governments for their support in setting up the project. She praised the Chief Minister for demonstrating how decisive steps can bring about significant change.
Foxconn's Semiconductor Business Group Chairperson Bob Chen described the joint venture as an "excellent example of our build, operate, and localize in India" strategy. He elaborated on their BOL (Build, Operate, Localize) business model, which supports the local community.
"We express our heartfelt gratitude to our partner HCL and consider ourselves fortunate to be honored by the central and UP governments for this achievement," Chen added, highlighting the collaborative effort behind the project.
The inauguration of the India Chip semiconductor project in Jewar not only marks a technological milestone for North India but also reinforces Uttar Pradesh's commitment to fostering innovation and economic growth under the leadership of CM Yogi Adityanath and PM Narendra Modi.
