In a significant push for digital governance and citizen convenience, the city of Mysuru is set to officially launch the ambitious One Nation, One Card initiative on December 1. The announcement was made by Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy during a key review meeting at the Mysuru South Regional Transport Office (RTO) on Saturday.
Digital Driving Licences and RCs with QR Codes
A cornerstone of the new system is the integration of QR codes on both the Registration Certificate (RC) and the driving licence. This technological upgrade will enable authorities and citizens to instantly access detailed information about a vehicle and the validity of a driving licence by simply scanning the code. This move is expected to streamline verification processes and enhance document security, reducing the potential for forgery.
Crackdown on Middlemen and Push for Online Services
During the meeting, Minister Reddy issued a stern directive to RTO officials and staff. He instructed them to ensure that middlemen and representatives of driving schools are prevented from interfering with the work of the general public at RTO offices. Emphasizing the government's focus on ease of living, he reminded citizens that 31 essential services are already available online under the Sakala scheme.
"There is no need for citizens to visit the office unnecessarily," the minister stated, urging the public to make full use of these digital facilities to save time and avoid hassle.
Revenue, New Buses, and Infrastructure Expansion
The meeting also shed light on the department's financial performance and future plans for Mysuru's transport infrastructure. The Regional Transport Department within the Mysuru division reported an impressive revenue collection of Rs 648 crore between April and October 2025. An additional Rs 15.17 crore was collected through fines during various enforcement drives.
Looking ahead, the minister revealed several key developments:
- 100 electric buses have been proposed for Mysuru district by the KSRTC, with preparations underway at the Bannimantap depot for their operation and maintenance.
- A proposal for a new bus stand at Tagadooru has been submitted.
- To cater to the city's expansion and increasing demand along the Outer Ring Road, plans are being made to identify locations for four new bus stands.
- The construction of the new Mysuru Rural Bus Stand, estimated at Rs 120 crore, is currently in progress.
Minister Reddy also directed officials to conduct inspections of the bus stand toilets under the KSRTC's jurisdiction to ensure proper hygiene and maintenance. The overall progress of the Mysuru division was briefed to the minister by Additional Transport Commissioner Omkareshwari.
