This initiative aims to streamline the approval and fund release process for rural housing applicants, emphasizing the critical role of accurate paperwork in a fully digitised system. The move is designed to enhance transparency, prevent duplication, and ensure that financial assistance reaches eligible beneficiaries without unnecessary delays.

Core Documentation and Aadhaar Authentication

At the heart of the PMAY-G application process is the mandatory submission of an Aadhaar Card for all applicants. This requirement is non-negotiable, as it forms the basis for identity verification and authentication. For illiterate applicants, a thumb impression accompanied by a formal consent letter is accepted as an alternative. Additionally, the Aadhaar must be linked to the applicant's mobile number to facilitate the receipt of OTPs and SMS updates regarding application status and fund disbursement. Officials have stressed that incomplete or mismatched documents are among the leading causes of delays, urging beneficiaries to ensure all records are accurate and properly linked before applying through the AwaasSoft portal.

Bank Account Seeding and Financial Assistance

For the disbursement of financial assistance via Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT), applicants must provide their bank account passbook, including both original and photocopy versions. A crucial stipulation is that the bank account must be Aadhaar-seeded. Authorities caution that even if correct bank details are submitted, instalments cannot be released unless the Aadhaar linkage is updated in the bank's backend system. Beneficiaries are advised to confirm the seeding status with their bank branch beforehand to avoid any disruptions in fund flow.

Employment, Sanitation, and Property Declarations

Applicants seeking wage support for house construction are required to submit their MGNREGA Job Card number. This enables eligible households to claim 90–95 days of unskilled labour wages directly linked to the housing project. For those eligible for additional assistance for toilet construction, the submission of a Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM) registration number is mandatory. Without this registration, sanitation-related financial support cannot be processed.

A key document in the approval process is a self-certified affidavit or undertaking declaring that neither the applicant nor any family member owns a pucca house anywhere in India. False declarations may lead to rejection of the application or recovery proceedings, underscoring the importance of honesty in this aspect.

Verification and Geo-Tagging Procedures

After document submission, the Gram Sabha conducts cross-verification, and field officials perform geo-tagging of the applicant's existing kaccha house. Applicants are advised to keep physical copies of all documents ready during these verification visits to facilitate a smooth process. The system operates entirely digitally via the AwaasSoft portal, and authorities have warned applicants against relying on intermediaries, as documentation accuracy, Aadhaar linkage, and proper registration across related schemes are essential to avoid delays or a "pending" application status.
