Prayagraj EV Buyers Finally Receive Long-Pending Subsidies After State Funds Release

In a major development for electric vehicle (EV) adoption in Uttar Pradesh, the Transport department has commenced the disbursal of subsidies that had been delayed for months. This action follows the state government's release of the necessary budgetary allocation, providing significant relief to hundreds of EV buyers in the Prayagraj district.

Ending Months of Uncertainty for Beneficiaries

With the funds now available, the subsidy amounts are being transferred directly into the bank accounts of eligible beneficiaries. This move concludes a period of prolonged uncertainty for more than 700 electric vehicle owners in Prayagraj, who were awaiting payments totaling nearly Rs 1.90 crore.

The delay in subsidy disbursement originated in November when a new system for processing these incentives was implemented. This transition led to procedural bottlenecks and lapses at the dealer level, particularly in uploading and verifying required documents. Consequently, buyers found themselves making repeated visits to dealerships and the Regional Transport Office in pursuit of their entitled benefits.

Streamlined Payment Process Through Dedicated Portal

Officials have confirmed that the payment process has been streamlined through the department's dedicated EV subsidy portal. Under the revised mechanism, applicants' details undergo online verification after dealers confirm vehicle purchases and submit necessary documentation.

The final approval is granted by the ARTO (administration) following thorough scrutiny. To ensure efficiency, the divisional inspector (technical) and ARTO administration are jointly overseeing the entire process, with verification targeted for completion within 7 days and subsidy crediting within 15 days thereafter.

Official Confirmation and Expedited Procedures

ARTO (administration) Rajeev Chaturvedi has confirmed that the pending subsidy payments have commenced. Special instructions have been issued to officials involved in verification to expedite the process, with every effort being made to ensure eligible beneficiaries receive their financial assistance without further delay.

Uttar Pradesh EV Policy Benefits

Under the Uttar Pradesh government's electric vehicle policy, buyers are entitled to a subsidy of 15% on the ex-factory price of their vehicles. The benefit is capped at specific amounts:

  • Rs 5,000 for electric two-wheelers
  • Rs 12,000 for electric three-wheelers
  • Up to Rs 1,00,000 for electric four-wheelers

Officials expressed optimism that the timely disbursal of subsidies will encourage more residents to choose environmentally friendly transportation options, supporting the state's broader sustainability goals.
