Karnataka Govt Approves Shramik Residential School in Puttur for Labourers' Children
Shramik Residential School Approved in Puttur, Karnataka

The Karnataka state government has given its approval for a Shramik Residential School in each district. In a significant move, land was quickly sanctioned in Puttur, enabling the establishment of a residential school specifically for the children of labourers in the taluk. While the opportunity to approve such a school was only available at the district centre, it was granted for the taluk centre exclusively in Puttur, as confirmed by Puttur MLA Ashok Kumar Rai.

School Construction and Funding

The Shramik Residential School building will be constructed in Kuriya at a cost of Rs 37.6 crore by the Karnataka State Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board, Rai stated. The project aims to provide quality education to children from economically disadvantaged worker families, enabling them to progress in society.

Admission Criteria and Facilities

Admission to the school is exclusively available to children of workers who possess a valid worker's identity card. Rai urged all workers to obtain a labour card from the labour department to ensure their children's eligibility. He highlighted that while typical schools for grades 6 to 12 occupy a maximum area of 10,000 square feet, this labour school is being constructed over an expansive 71,000 square feet. The MLA emphasized the need to inform workers about the school's facilities so they can enrol their children.

Admission of children will commence before the upcoming elections. All subject teachers will be present at the residential school and will reside on the premises. The new school building, including separate hostels for boys and girls, as well as teachers' quarters, will be constructed on seven-and-a-half acres of land.
