Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin Extends Summer Grant to 37.7 Lakh Vulnerable Citizens

In a significant welfare move, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin on Tuesday deposited a one-time summer grant of Rs 2000 for 37.7 lakh people belonging to vulnerable sections of society. These individuals are under the state government's social safety net, receiving monthly financial assistance.

Surprise Disbursement for Beneficiaries

Senior citizens, widows, and physically challenged persons who rely on government aid were pleasantly surprised when the Rs 2000 summer grant was credited to their bank accounts along with their March disbursement. This initiative follows a similar summer incentive of Rs 2000 provided to 1.31 crore women beneficiaries of the Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Thittam (KMUT) just 20 days earlier.

Chief Minister Stalin announced on X that there had been demands from other social security pension recipients for a similar summer grant. "We have fulfilled that request now," he stated, reiterating his government's commitment to inclusive welfare.

Detailed Breakdown of Beneficiaries and Amounts

According to government data, the distribution included:

  • 29.2 lakh recipients of old age and widow pensions, who received Rs 3200 each (combining the Rs 2000 grant with the monthly pension of Rs 1200 for March).
  • 5.9 lakh persons with disabilities, credited with Rs 3,500 each (including a monthly maintenance allowance of Rs 1500).
  • 2.5 lakh families of persons with severe disabilities, who received assistance of Rs 4,000 each (with their monthly aid of Rs 2000).

Additional Support for Fishermen and Tea Farmers

Beyond this, the government also disbursed Rs 8000 per family to 1.62 lakh fishermen households as fishing ban period assistance. Furthermore, 14,870 tea farmers in the Nilgiris district benefited from a Rs 8.53 crore support package, which includes an incentive of Rs two per kg for green tea leaves procured through 15 cooperative tea factories.

Chief Minister Stalin emphasized that no one would be left behind in the state's development journey, highlighting the administration's dedication to supporting all sections of society. This comprehensive welfare outreach aims to alleviate financial burdens during the summer months and reinforce social security measures across Tamil Nadu.
