Hyderabad: Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Wednesday declared that the Congress government is investing over 8 per cent of the state's ₹3 lakh crore annual budget to rebuild the education sector and restore parents' faith in government schools.
"We are trying to win the confidence of parents that their children will have a bright future by studying in government schools too," he said. The CM inaugurated the first Telangana Public School (TPS) at Arutla village in Rangareddy district — a government institution offering nursery to class 12, designed on a par with corporate facilities.
After sharing breakfast with students, joining them briefly in sports, and inspecting digital classrooms, libraries, and music sections, he announced that similar schools will be established in every assembly constituency.
Revanth reminded the gathering that government schools had produced leaders like former Prime Minister PV Narasimha Rao. He credited the Telangana Education Commission led by Akunuri Murali for laying the foundation of reforms.
"The commission members toured districts, states and other countries and submitted a report to revive and strengthen the education system," he said, adding that the full report is under review by a committee headed by government advisor K Keshava Rao. Murali, who accompanied the CM during the visit, resigned last month, but the government has not accepted it.
"The future of Telangana does not lie in glass embellished palaces or colorful walls. We firmly believe it lies within the classrooms," Revanth said, dedicating the Arutla TPS to all government school students.
He stressed that the initiative aims to benefit 27 lakh children across the state, combining academics with sports training to nurture future talent. Already, 1,814 students have enrolled at Arutla TPS, forcing the school to display a 'no admission' board due to overwhelming demand.
The CM accused the BRS of indulging in baseless allegations. He recalled criticism when football legend Lionel Messi visited Hyderabad: "I ensured that students of SC, ST, minority social welfare schools played football with Messi in front of the world. While I am trying to promote sports and fight drug culture, they cannot digest it."
He also dismissed claims of corruption in social welfare school tenders, noting, "If they allege ₹3,000 crore corruption in a ₹685 crore tender, I can only feel sorry for them." Appealing for public support, Revanth said the government is committed to transforming Telangana into a national role model in education.
