In a significant move to accelerate the adoption of clean mobility, the Telangana government has announced two key initiatives: the creation of a centralized real-time dashboard to monitor all electric vehicle (EV) charging stations across the state and a policy mandating charging points in apartment complexes. These decisions emerged from a high-level review meeting chaired by Chief Secretary K Ramakrishna Rao at the Secretariat on Friday, where senior officials from multiple departments convened to strengthen the EV ecosystem.
Real-Time Dashboard for Enhanced EV Infrastructure Monitoring
Chief Secretary K Ramakrishna Rao emphasized that transitioning to clean mobility is an urgent priority, highlighting that a reliable and widespread charging network is crucial to build public confidence and meet the growing demand for electric vehicles. He directed various departments to develop a comprehensive roadmap for rapidly expanding charging infrastructure through a blend of government support and private investment.
Officials revealed that the proposed dashboard will provide real-time mapping of charging stations throughout Telangana. This tool is designed to help authorities identify infrastructure gaps, monitor the progress of rollout efforts, and ensure transparency in implementation. Additionally, the platform is expected to assist commuters by offering easy access to charging station locations, thereby enhancing convenience for EV users.
Mandatory Charging Points in Apartment Complexes
Special Chief Secretary (Energy) Navin Mittal stated that the energy department is currently drafting a policy to make EV charging points mandatory in the basements of apartment complexes. This initiative aims to facilitate convenient home charging for urban residents, which is considered a key factor in accelerating EV adoption. With access to charging emerging as one of the biggest concerns among potential buyers, this policy is poised to address a critical barrier to electric vehicle uptake.
