Uttar Pradesh Government Sanctions Rs 425 Crore for New Township Projects

The Uttar Pradesh government has made a significant move by allocating Rs 425 crore for the development of new townships across eight key cities in the state. This initiative is part of the Chief Minister New Township Scheme, aimed at fostering planned urban growth and improving housing facilities for residents.

Fund Allocation and City Selection

The allocated funds will serve as seed capital for township projects in the following cities: Bareilly, Varanasi, Orai, Chitrakoot, Banda, Pratapgarh, Ghazipur, and Mau. These cities were chosen based on proposals submitted by various development authorities to the state government, highlighting their need for structured urban expansion.

Objectives of the Scheme

The primary goal of this scheme is to ensure planned development in response to the rapidly increasing urban population in Uttar Pradesh. By investing in new townships, the government aims to:

  • Provide better housing facilities for people.
  • Enhance infrastructure and amenities in urban areas.
  • Promote sustainable growth and reduce haphazard urbanization.

Financial Support and Terms

Under the Chief Minister New Township Scheme, the government offers substantial financial assistance. Specifically, it provides up to 50% of the expenditure incurred on land acquisition as seed capital. This support is granted for a maximum period of 20 years, allowing ample time for development authorities to implement and sustain the projects effectively.

This strategic investment is expected to boost urban planning efforts, create job opportunities, and improve the overall quality of life in these cities, aligning with broader state development goals.
