Take the inspiring example of Neeraj Patel, a young farmer from Barabanki district. Traditionally, his family engaged in conventional agriculture, but Patel sought to explore innovative avenues for higher returns. His journey began when he attended a horticulture department program and learned about gerbera flower cultivation.
Determined to implement modern techniques, Patel leveraged the National Horticulture Mission scheme run by the government. In 2018, he secured a loan of Rs 29.5 lakh and later received a substantial 50% subsidy under this initiative. This financial support enabled him to establish a state-of-the-art polyhouse on one acre of land.
Remarkable Success with Gerbera Cultivation
Today, Patel's polyhouse boasts nearly 25,000 gerbera plants, capitalizing on the high market demand for these vibrant flowers. He reports that after covering all operational expenses, his annual profit ranges between Rs 8 to 10 lakh. This significant income boost underscores the tangible impact of government-backed agricultural programs.
Officials emphasize that such success stories are becoming more common as farmers embrace technological advancements and diversified cropping patterns.
