The Uttar Pradesh government has announced a new initiative to prioritize school enrolment for children from underprivileged communities. This move aims to boost education access and reduce dropout rates across the state, particularly in rural and marginalized areas.
Key Highlights of the Initiative
The initiative focuses on identifying out-of-school children from Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Other Backward Classes, and economically weaker sections. Special drives will be conducted to enrol these children in government schools, with a target to achieve universal enrolment in the next academic year.
Measures to Ensure Retention
To prevent dropouts, the government will provide free textbooks, uniforms, and mid-day meals. Additionally, bridge courses will be offered for older children who have missed schooling. Teachers will be trained to handle diverse learning needs, and community involvement will be encouraged through parent-teacher meetings.
Monitoring and Implementation
District education officers will be responsible for tracking enrolment and retention data. A dedicated portal will be set up to monitor progress in real-time. The government has also allocated funds for infrastructure improvements in schools in underprivileged areas.
This initiative is part of the state's broader effort to achieve the Sustainable Development Goal of quality education for all. Officials believe that prioritizing education for the most vulnerable will help break the cycle of poverty and promote social equality.
