Uttar Pradesh Achieves Top Ranking in National BC Sakhi Scheme

Under the persistent efforts of the Yogi Adityanath government, Uttar Pradesh has secured the premier position across India in the implementation of the BC Sakhi Scheme. This notable achievement places the state ahead of Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan, which follow in second and third positions respectively.

Transforming Rural Banking Through Women Empowerment

The BC Sakhi Scheme represents a significant rural banking and women empowerment initiative designed to deliver essential financial services directly to village communities. Simultaneously, it creates substantial income opportunities for women who are affiliated with self-help groups (SHGs).

"This transformative scheme is being executed throughout the state via the Uttar Pradesh Rajya Gramin Ajivika Mission," explained a government official. "Its core objective is to strengthen financial inclusion in remote rural regions by training selected women to provide vital banking services."

Expanding Reach and Creating Economic Independence

Currently, approximately 40,000 women associated with SHGs are actively working as BC Sakhis across numerous villages in Uttar Pradesh. These dedicated women deliver fundamental banking services to rural residents, thereby achieving financial independence in the process.

The average monthly earnings for BC Sakhis typically range between Rs 10,000 and Rs 15,000. However, numerous participants are earning substantially higher commissions, with some reaching impressive monthly incomes of Rs 40,000 to Rs 50,000.

Comprehensive Training and Service Delivery

Following intensive training, these empowered women offer a wide array of banking facilities through micro-ATMs and digital devices. Their services include:

  • Cash withdrawal and deposit operations
  • Aadhaar-enabled payment system transactions
  • Various other essential banking facilities

This innovative approach enables villagers to access crucial banking services without undertaking lengthy journeys to distant bank branches.

Notable Success Stories and Economic Impact

Joint Mission Director Janmejay Shukla highlighted that women in districts including Lucknow, Prayagraj, and Sultanpur are emerging as exemplary models of economic self-reliance through this initiative.

Among the standout success stories is Anita Pal from Lucknow, who serves as a BC Sakhi under the mission. In addition to her fixed monthly income, she earns commissions reaching up to Rs 50,000 each month.

Similarly, Priyanka Maurya from Sultanpur has been recognized as a highly successful participant in the scheme. She effectively manages her family responsibilities while earning approximately Rs 50,000 monthly in commission, supplementing her regular income substantially.

Broader Implications and Future Expansion

Officials report that the scheme has dramatically expanded banking service accessibility in rural areas while encouraging increased female participation in the program. This initiative is widely viewed as a powerful mechanism for strengthening household incomes and enhancing women's involvement in local economic activities.

Following the program's exceptional performance metrics, additional banking institutions have joined collaborative efforts to further expand the scheme's reach throughout Uttar Pradesh. This growing partnership promises to extend the benefits of financial inclusion to even more rural communities across the state.
