UP Maintains Stable LPG, PNG Supply Amid Rising Demand During West Asia Conflict
UP LPG, PNG Supply Stable Despite Demand Rise Amid Conflict

Uttar Pradesh Ensures Uninterrupted Gas Supply Amid Regional Tensions

Despite a moderate rise in demand across both domestic and commercial sectors, Uttar Pradesh continues to maintain a stable and reliable supply of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) and Piped Natural Gas (PNG). This stability persists even as the ongoing conflict in West Asia creates global energy market uncertainties. Officials from oil marketing companies and district administrations have provided firm assurances to consumers that adequate stocks are available and that all supply chains remain fully operational and functional.

Official Data and Consumer Base

According to the latest official statistics, Uttar Pradesh currently serves approximately 4.83 crore domestic LPG consumers through major oil marketing companies including Indane, Bharat Gas, and HP Gas. Sanjay Bhandari, the Executive Director and State Head of Indian Oil Corporation Limited in Uttar Pradesh, emphasized the state's preparedness. He confirmed that sufficient stocks are available statewide and strongly urged consumers to avoid making multiple or premature bookings for cylinders to ensure smooth distribution for everyone.

"Our primary focus at this moment is ensuring a completely hassle-free supply of LPG to all domestic consumers," stated Bhandari, who also serves as the state-level coordinator for oil marketing companies. "For the commercial category, we are currently supplying LPG cylinders only to essential institutions such as hospitals and educational establishments. Supply to restaurants, eateries, and other commercial establishments has been temporarily halted as a precautionary measure."

Regional Consumption Patterns and Key Districts

Within the commercial and industrial sector, LPG consumption is heavily concentrated in several key urban and industrial hubs. The major consumption centers include:

  • Noida-Greater Noida
  • Ghaziabad
  • Agra
  • Kanpur
  • Lucknow

In these areas, restaurants, various industries, and institutions rely significantly on LPG for their daily operational needs. Lucknow stands out as one of the largest markets for the domestic sector in UP, accounting for about 15 lakh LPG consumers. The other top four regions by consumer count are:

  1. Prayagraj with 14 lakh consumers
  2. Agra with 12 lakh consumers
  3. Gorakhpur with 12 lakh consumers
  4. Ghaziabad with 12 lakh consumers

Collectively, these five districts account for nearly 65 lakh LPG consumers, representing a substantial portion of the state's total consumer base.

Administrative Measures and Daily Demand

Jyoti Gautam, the Additional District Magistrate for Civil Supply in Lucknow, provided further reassurance regarding local stocks. "Sufficient LPG stock is readily available within the district," she stated. "Proactive steps have been implemented by both the district administration and the oil marketing companies to prevent any potential hoarding of cylinders, ensuring fair distribution to all genuine consumers."

On an average day, Uttar Pradesh records a domestic LPG demand of approximately 10,000 metric tonnes. The commercial and industrial demand adds another 0.5 metric tonnes per day. Officials have acknowledged observing a moderate increase in demand across both segments recently. However, they stress that the situation is under continuous and vigilant monitoring to guarantee an uninterrupted supply chain and prevent any shortages.

Distribution Network and PNG Supply Status

To support the extensive distribution of LPG across the vast state, a robust network of around 4,145 LPG distributors is currently operational in Uttar Pradesh. Lucknow alone is served by 116 of these distributors, ensuring localized and efficient service.

Parallel to the LPG infrastructure, the state also maintains a significant Piped Natural Gas network. Uttar Pradesh has around 20.25 lakh domestic PNG connections. Lucknow serves about 82,000 PNG consumers, receiving a daily supply of 3.5 lakh standard cubic meters of gas. Agra follows closely with approximately 83,000 connections, supplied with 2.25 lakh standard cubic meters per day.

Praveen Singh, the Deputy General Manager of Marketing for Green Gas Limited, offered complete assurance regarding PNG supply. "Our company is currently meeting 100% of the PNG demand in all our operational areas without any compromise," Singh declared. "We want to assure every consumer that there is absolutely no need for panic. The supply is stable, secure, and fully capable of meeting current requirements."

The coordinated efforts between government authorities and fuel supply companies highlight a proactive approach to maintaining energy security in Uttar Pradesh during a period of heightened global tension and increased local demand.
