Major Power Bill Relief Announced for Uttar Pradesh Consumers
The Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL) has introduced a significant financial relief initiative for electricity consumers across the state. The newly launched Bijli Bill Rahat Yojana 2025-26 aims to provide substantial discounts and waivers on pending electricity bills for both domestic and small commercial users.
Key Benefits and Discount Structure
Under this comprehensive relief package, eligible consumers can avail themselves of substantial financial benefits. Domestic consumers with connections up to 2 kilowatts and shopkeeper consumers with connections up to 1 kilowatt will receive a generous 25% discount on the principal amount along with a complete 100% waiver on interest charges.
The scheme offers flexible payment options, allowing consumers to settle their outstanding dues through easy monthly installments. This approach is particularly beneficial for those facing temporary financial constraints, making bill settlement more manageable.
Technical Bill Corrections and Theft Case Resolution
One of the standout features of this scheme addresses common billing issues faced by consumers. Bills that have shown abnormal increases due to system errors or technical faults will be automatically corrected by UPPCL's technical systems. The correction will be based on average consumption patterns, eliminating the need for consumers to visit electricity offices repeatedly for bill revisions.
For cases involving power theft allegations, the scheme provides a structured settlement procedure that promises faster resolution of pending cases. This streamlined approach aims to clear long-standing disputes while offering reasonable settlement options to affected consumers.
Registration Process and Important Dates
The relief scheme will be operational from December 1, 2025, until February 28, 2026, giving consumers a three-month window to avail themselves of the benefits. Registration can be completed through multiple channels including the official UPPCL website at http://www.uppcl.org, the UPPCL Consumer mobile application, departmental offices, authorized fintech agents, meter readers, or public service centers.
A nominal registration fee of ₹2,000 is required, which will be adjusted against the consumer's electricity bill. This ensures that the registration amount contributes directly toward bill settlement.
This initiative represents one of the most consumer-friendly power bill relief schemes introduced in recent years, potentially benefiting millions of households and small businesses across Uttar Pradesh during the winter months.
