UP's Jal Jivan Mission: 26,564 Villages Get 'Har Ghar Jal'

Uttar Pradesh's Jal Jivan Mission Achieves Milestone with 26,564 Villages Declared 'Har Ghar Jal'

In a significant development under the Jal Jivan Mission, gram panchayats in Uttar Pradesh have officially marked 26,564 villages as 'Har Ghar Jal', signifying complete coverage with functional piped water connections. This achievement reflects a major stride in improving rural infrastructure and ensuring access to clean drinking water across the state.

Massive Scale of Implementation and Impact on Rural Families

A state government spokesperson highlighted that nearly 2.5 crore rural families have now received functional household tap connections. This extensive rollout is not just about water supply; it represents a tangible enhancement in the quality of rural life. The initiative is seen as a crucial step towards sustainable development and environmental protection, aligning with broader national goals.

The official emphasized that work is advancing rapidly in over 97,000 villages across Uttar Pradesh. Through these concerted efforts, the objective of delivering tap water to every rural household is being accelerated, ensuring that no community is left behind in this essential service.

Embracing Green Energy for Cost-Effective and Sustainable Solutions

To make the schemes more cost-effective and environmentally friendly, the government has prioritized solar energy-based models. Notably, 80% of the Gramin Pipe Peyajal Yojana in the state now operates on green energy. This shift to solar-based drinking water schemes has yielded impressive environmental benefits, resulting in an annual reduction of approximately 13 lakh tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions.

This approach not only cuts operational costs but also contributes significantly to India's climate action commitments, showcasing how rural development can go hand-in-hand with ecological stewardship.

Field Inspection and Commendation for Exemplary Implementation

Recently, Ashok Kumar Meena, Secretary of the Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation under the Ministry of Jal Shakti, conducted a field inspection of the Chand Sarai Gramin Pipe Peyajal Yojana in the Gosainganj development block. During his visit, he commended the implementation of the scheme for its technical efficiency, clean and well-organised premises, and overall project operation, describing it as excellent and exemplary.

Such inspections underscore the government's commitment to monitoring and ensuring high standards in the execution of these vital projects, fostering accountability and continuous improvement.

The success of the Jal Jivan Mission in Uttar Pradesh serves as a model for other states, demonstrating how targeted initiatives can transform rural livelihoods while promoting sustainability. As more villages join the 'Har Ghar Jal' list, the vision of water security for all moves closer to reality, paving the way for healthier and more prosperous communities.
