UP Surpasses 18.56 Lakh Lakhpati Didis, Aims Higher
UP's Lakhpati Didi Scheme: Over 18.56 Lakh Women Empowered

The state of Uttar Pradesh has achieved a significant milestone in women's economic empowerment, with more than 18.56 lakh women now earning an annual income of at least one lakh rupees as part of the transformative Lakhpati Didi initiative. This success is a direct result of targeted government intervention aimed at fostering self-reliance among women across the state.

Ambitious Targets and Digital Tracking

The Uttar Pradesh government has identified a total of 35.94 lakh women who will receive comprehensive support to enhance their income and achieve financial independence. To systematically track this progress, the authorities have created a digital livelihood register. Income details of 29.68 lakh women have already been registered in this digital system, ensuring transparency and effective monitoring of the scheme's impact.

Surpassing Central Government Goals

The Central Government has set a national target to elevate the annual income of two crore self-help group members to above one lakh rupees by the financial year 2026–27. For Uttar Pradesh, the assigned target from the centre is 28.92 lakh women. Demonstrating strong commitment, the state has set an even higher internal target for itself. A government spokesperson expressed confidence that the remaining 10.36 lakh women will successfully achieve the Lakhpati Didi status within the stipulated timeline, as per the central guidelines.

The Path Forward for Women's Empowerment

The remarkable figure of over 18.56 lakh Lakhpati Didis as of November this year underscores the scheme's accelerating momentum. This initiative is not just about increasing income but is a cornerstone for building sustainable livelihoods and promoting gender-inclusive economic growth. The proactive approach of the state, evident in its higher self-imposed target and robust digital infrastructure, positions it as a leading force in the nationwide mission to empower women through entrepreneurship and skill development.
