Yogi Announces Doppler Radars, Rs 460 Crore Aid for UP Farmers

Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath Unveils Major Agricultural Initiatives

In a significant move to bolster agricultural infrastructure and support farmers, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced on Saturday the installation of Doppler Weather Radars in five key cities across the state. The advanced radars will be set up in Lucknow, Varanasi, Gorakhpur, Jhansi, and Azamgarh to enhance weather forecasting accuracy and identify lightning-prone areas, aiming to mitigate risks for the farming community.

Massive Financial Assistance Distributed to Farmers

The announcement came during an event where CM Yogi distributed compensation totaling Rs 285 crore to 2.51 lakh farmers under the 'Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana' for the Kharif-2025 season. Additionally, he provided financial assistance of Rs 175 crore to 3,500 beneficiary families under the 'Mukhyamantri Krishak Durghatna Kalyan Yojana', bringing the total aid disbursed to Rs 460 crore in a single day.

Infrastructure Development and Weather Monitoring Systems

Yogi Adityanath revealed that the setup of 450 Automatic Weather Stations and nearly 2,000 Automatic Rain Gauges at the block level across Uttar Pradesh is nearing completion. This network is designed to provide real-time weather data, crucial for agricultural planning and disaster management.

Further strengthening agricultural infrastructure, the Chief Minister laid foundation stones for several projects, including:

  • Deputy director of agriculture offices and soil testing laboratories in Baghpat, Shamli, Kasganj, and Bhadohi.
  • A 50-bed hostel building at the Government Land Conservation Centre in Mauranipur, Jhansi.
  • A smart agriculture bureau studio unit in Lucknow to promote modern farming techniques.

Government's Commitment to Farmer Welfare

Assuring farmers of the double-engine government's unwavering support, CM Yogi emphasized that advanced farming practices are key to their prosperity. He described the crop insurance scheme as a robust support system that ensures financial returns during distress caused by natural disasters.

Regarding the 'Mukhyamantri Krishak Durghatna Kalyan Yojana', Yogi highlighted its expanded coverage: "Earlier, only the farmer was covered while family members, sharecroppers, and co-farmers were excluded. So far, over Rs 1,000 crore has been provided under the scheme. This includes Rs 5 lakh assistance in case of the death of a farmer or a family member due to an accident."

He acknowledged that while no compensation can replace a human life, the government aims to stand as a reliable support system for affected families. To ensure swift aid delivery, Yogi instructed all District Magistrates to guarantee that the financial assistance reaches beneficiaries' accounts by the next day without fail.

These initiatives underscore the state government's focus on leveraging technology and financial aid to enhance agricultural resilience and farmer welfare in Uttar Pradesh.
