Justice Served: 10-Year Prison Term for Child Abuser in Alwar
In a significant verdict that reinforces the fight against child sexual abuse, a POCSO court in Alwar has sentenced a man to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment for the kidnapping and rape of a minor girl from his village. The judgment was delivered on Wednesday by Judge Shilpa Sameer, marking a crucial step toward justice for the survivor.
Timeline of the Crime and Investigation
The case came to light when the girl's mother filed a missing complaint at Sadar police station on May 18, 2024, reporting that her 17-year-old daughter had disappeared. Acting swiftly on the information, police teams traced and rescued the minor from Nakodar in Jalandhar district, Punjab.
According to Special Public Prosecutor Pankaj Yadav, the investigation revealed that the accused had lured the minor girl and taken her to Punjab against her will. During police interrogation, the man confessed to committing the sexual assault while they were in Punjab, providing crucial evidence that strengthened the prosecution's case.
Court Proceedings and Compensation for Survivor
The prosecution built a strong case against the accused, presenting 17 witnesses and 22 documents before the court. The evidence presented was comprehensive enough to secure a conviction under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
In a compassionate move recognizing the trauma endured by the survivor, Judge Shilpa Sameer recommended the district legal services authority to provide Rs 50,000 to the girl under the victim compensation scheme. This financial support aims to assist in her recovery and rehabilitation process.
The 10-year sentencing serves as a stern warning to potential offenders and demonstrates the judiciary's commitment to protecting children from sexual violence. Such convictions under the POCSO Act are crucial in creating safer environments for minors across the country.
