Police Nab Eleven in Coordinated Crackdown on Illegal Cockfighting Rings

Law enforcement authorities in Tamil Nadu have made significant arrests targeting illegal cockfighting activities. In two separate operations on Friday, police teams apprehended a total of eleven individuals across Trichy and Karur districts.

Trichy District Operation Nets Three Suspects

Uppiliyapuram police took three people into custody during a routine patrol near Thuraiyur in Trichy district. The arrests occurred around noon when a police team led by Sub-Inspector Sakthi Vinayagam discovered the illegal activity.

Officers caught the accused conducting rooster fights for money on a private field. Police confirmed the field belonged to one of the arrested individuals. Following the discovery, Sub-Inspector Vinayagam filed an official complaint.

Authorities registered a case at the Uppiliyapuram police station under relevant legal sections. During the operation, police seized three mobile phones and confiscated cash totaling ₹3,800 from the suspects.

Karur District Sees Eight More Arrests

In a parallel crackdown, Karur district police arrested eight additional people from three different locations. These individuals faced similar charges of organizing and participating in cockfights involving gambling.

Police teams from Velliyanai, Pasupathipalayam and Aravakurichi stations conducted the coordinated arrests. Officers seized vehicles, mobile phones and cash found in possession of the accused during these operations.

Law enforcement officials noted that areas like Aravakurichi have gained notoriety as known hotspots for cockfighting activities. They emphasized that such events remain strictly banned under current regulations.

Police Continue Vigilance Against Gambling Activities

The arrests demonstrate ongoing police efforts to curb illegal gambling operations in rural Tamil Nadu. Authorities have increased patrols and surveillance in areas historically associated with such activities.

Police sources indicate they will maintain pressure on organizers of banned animal fights. The seizures of mobile phones and vehicles aim to disrupt the logistical support for these illegal gatherings.

Local communities have received reminders about the legal consequences of participating in or organizing cockfights. Police encourage citizens to report any suspicious activities related to animal fighting and gambling.
