Mirzapur Multi-Vehicle Crash Claims 11 Lives, SUV Engulfed in Flames
A devastating road accident in the Dramandganj area of Mirzapur late Wednesday evening has resulted in the tragic deaths of at least 11 people. The horrific incident involved a collision between multiple vehicles, culminating in a fire that consumed an SUV and claimed the lives of all seven occupants inside.
Sequence of Events on Dramandganj Hill
The tragedy unfolded around 9:00 PM on the steep slope of the Dramandganj hills. According to officials from Mirzapur, a truck descending from Madhya Pradesh's Rewa district experienced sudden brake failure. This mechanical failure caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle.
The out-of-control truck first collided with a car that was ascending the hill at the same time. In a chain reaction, the car was then struck from behind by another truck. Before anyone could react to the initial impact, a speeding SUV that was also climbing the hill crashed into the truck, leading to an immediate and catastrophic fire.
Fatalities and Rescue Efforts
Mirzapur Superintendent of Police Aparna Rajat Kaushik confirmed the death toll of 11 individuals. Among the deceased were all seven occupants of the SUV, who were tragically charred after their vehicle caught fire following the collision. The other confirmed fatalities included the drivers of the car and one of the trucks, with the remaining two victims yet to be identified at the time of reporting.
Eyewitnesses described a scene of chaos and horror. People inside the SUV were trapped and attempting to escape when the vehicle suddenly caught fire with a loud explosion. Local residents rushed to assist, but the fire quickly became menacing and engulfed all individuals inside the SUV, leaving no chance for rescue.
Emergency Response and Investigation
Upon receiving information about the accident, personnel from the Dramandganj police station immediately reached the spot and launched relief and rescue operations. The fire department was promptly informed, and attempts were made to bring the blaze under control. However, by the time emergency responders arrived, it was tragically too late to save those trapped in the burning SUV.
Additional Director General of Police for Varanasi Zone, Piyush Mordia, reported that two circle officers, five police station in-charges, and two fire tenders were engaged in the rescue operations. Mirzapur SP Aparna Rajat Kaushik also personally reached the accident site to oversee the response efforts.
Impact and Aftermath
The catastrophic incident caused significant chaos on the MP-Mirzapur highway, disrupting traffic and drawing attention to the dangerous conditions on the Dramandganj hill section. The steep slope and potential for mechanical failures in heavy vehicles have raised concerns about road safety in the area.
This tragic accident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of vehicle maintenance, particularly brake systems in trucks navigating hilly terrain, and the need for enhanced safety measures on challenging road sections to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
