The body of an 11-year-old girl, who went missing a day earlier, was recovered in the Baruipur area of West Bengal's South 24 Parganas district on Sunday. Locals alleged that she was raped and murdered, according to police reports.
Body Found in Sack; Protests Erupt
The body was discovered stuffed in a sack in the Surjyapur Haat area on Sunday morning. Outraged locals blocked the Baruipur-Joynagar Road, demanding the arrest of those responsible. Protesters burned tyres on the road and damaged several police vehicles, causing a significant disruption.
Inspector General of Police, Presidency Range, Kankarprasad Barui, appealed to the protesters to lift the blockade. He stated, "Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari called me up and said action will be taken against all the culprits and they will be punished." Barui assured that everyone involved in the crime would be arrested and receive maximum punishment after trial.
Police Assurance and Investigation
Barui also announced that he would meet the deceased girl's parents on Tuesday to offer all possible assistance. He emphasized that police raids are ongoing to apprehend the culprits, declaring, "No one will be spared." Following his assurance, the protesters allowed the body to be sent for post-mortem examination, and the road blockade was lifted.
The body has been sent to Baruipur Sub-Divisional Hospital for post-mortem to determine the cause of death and to ascertain whether sexual assault occurred. A police officer confirmed that one person has been apprehended in connection with the incident and is currently being questioned.
Details of the Incident
The girl went missing on Saturday afternoon after leaving home to purchase a gift for her friend's birthday. Her family members alleged that four individuals forcibly took her away. The tragic incident has sparked widespread outrage and demands for justice in the region.
