Twelve Individuals Arrested for Alleged Attack on Dalit Family During Naming Ceremony

In a disturbing incident in Bulandshahr district, twelve people were arrested on Wednesday for allegedly attacking a Dalit family during a child's naming ceremony. The assault occurred in Ganora Sheikh village, where police reported that the violence erupted over loud music being played at the event.

Details of the Incident and Police Response

According to complainant Akash Kumar, aged 25, the gathering featured DJ music and dance performances. The event had paused temporarily to allow local Muslim residents to perform their prayers on Monday. However, when the music resumed after the prayers, approximately fifteen to twenty men allegedly barged into the ceremony armed with sticks.

The assailants reportedly assaulted multiple attendees, including women, and used casteist slurs during the attack. Additionally, they vandalised property at the venue, causing significant damage. Station House Officer Neeraj Malik confirmed that the twelve accused individuals have been sent to jail, with further arrests anticipated as the investigation progresses.

Legal Actions and Statements from Authorities

Police registered a First Information Report on Tuesday under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for rioting and voluntarily causing hurt. The FIR also includes charges under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act against several individuals, including village head Moyeen Khan, Matlub Ali, Mohd Adil, and Akram Khan, among others.

SHO Neeraj Malik provided further insight, stating, "Those involved in the clash didn't sustain any major injury." This comment highlights that while the attack was violent, it did not result in severe physical harm to the perpetrators, though the emotional and psychological impact on the victims remains a concern.

Broader Implications and Community Impact

This incident underscores ongoing issues related to caste-based violence and communal tensions in rural areas. The use of casteist slurs during the attack points to deep-seated prejudices that continue to affect social harmony. The police's swift action in making arrests and filing charges under stringent laws reflects efforts to address such crimes and ensure justice for marginalized communities.

As the investigation continues, authorities are expected to pursue all leads to hold accountable everyone involved in this reprehensible act. The case serves as a reminder of the need for greater awareness and enforcement of laws protecting Dalit rights and promoting social cohesion.
