In a significant crackdown on narcotics trafficking, the Bettiah police successfully intercepted a consignment of cannabis and apprehended three individuals in the West Champaran district of Bihar. The operation, which took place on Friday, led to the recovery of a substantial quantity of 13 kilograms of ganja.
Major Drug Bust Near Pandai River
The police action unfolded in the area under the jurisdiction of the Gaunaha police station. Acting on specific intelligence, a team intercepted the accused near the Pandai river. The trio was reportedly carrying the large consignment of illicit drugs when they were caught. The swift operation prevented the narcotics from reaching its intended destination in the local market.
Identities of the Accused Revealed
The Bettiah Senior Superintendent of Police, Shaurya Suman, identified the arrested individuals. The accused have been named as Ramu Oraon (40), a resident of Pachhrauta village falling under the Bhangaha police station area. The other two, Nami Manjhi (50) and Nagina Das (49), are both from Jigna village, which comes under the Manpur police station area.
Ongoing Investigation and Legal Action
Following the arrest, the police have registered a case against the three men under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Authorities are now intensifying their investigation to uncover the broader network involved in this drug trade. They are probing the source of the seized ganja and its intended supply chain to identify other potential links.
SP Shaurya Suman commended the police team for their vigilant efforts. He emphasized that such operations are a part of the department's continuous drive against the menace of drug peddling in the region.
